NEWMARKET — A 59-year-old Newmarket man was arrested Friday morning after allegedly committing domestic assault and making threats with a firearm, according to police.
Mark Allen McLean faces multiple charges including four counts of domestic violence assault, false imprisonment, criminal threatening, two counts of robbery, two counts of resisting arrest, burglary, possession of a controlled drug and fugitive from justice.
The incident began Thursday evening when Newmarket Police received a call requesting a welfare check at a residence where no one was home.
Officers later located the subject of the welfare check elsewhere in Newmarket, who disclosed being a victim of domestic assault.
While police searched for the suspect, they received a call from a downtown business reporting that a man, later identified as McLean, had brandished a firearm and made threats of self-harm, including expressing a desire to commit “suicide by cop.”
Police learned McLean had fled into a nearby mill complex, prompting a large-scale search with assistance from neighboring communities and the Seacoast Emergency Response Team.
Around 4:10 a.m. Friday, officers located McLean inside an apartment in the mill complex that was not his residence.
After a brief struggle, McLean was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital as a precaution.
