HERKIMER — A 20-year-old Ilion man was arrested after allegedly hitting a woman with his vehicle following a verbal disagreement on April 30.
Dwight Forsythe faces felony assault charges after the incident that occurred around 7 p.m. near the intersection of S Main Street and Mohawk Street.
According to the Herkimer Police Department, officers received a complaint that a female had been struck by a vehicle and possibly sustained injuries.
Witnesses provided officers with descriptions of both the vehicle and the female involved.
After a brief search, officers located and stopped the vehicle on S Washington Street.
Investigators determined that Forsythe had slapped the female on her face during an argument, yelled at her to exit the vehicle, and then pushed her out.
The victim attempted to walk toward S Main Street to escape, but Forsythe allegedly chased her with his vehicle.
Police say the woman ran in fear before being struck by the vehicle and knocked to the ground.
Forsythe then drove away from the scene, according to police.
The female victim was evaluated by the Herkimer Fire Department for back pain, multiple abrasions, and road rash.
Forsythe was charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony, for hitting the female with his vehicle; third-degree menacing, a class B misdemeanor, for placing her in fear; and received a traffic ticket for reckless driving.
He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.
