MADISON — A man suffered a gunshot injury while turkey hunting Thursday, May 1 shortly after 10 a.m., according to New Hampshire Fish and Game.

The incident occurred after two hunters, who had already harvested one turkey earlier in the morning, began hunting in a different area.

The hunters became separated and positioned themselves on opposite sides of a clearing.

When a turkey passed between them, one hunter fired a single shot, unaware his partner was located in the wood line beyond the bird.

Multiple pellets from the shotgun shell traveled beyond the turkey and struck the second hunter in the face and upper torso.

The injured hunter suffered multiple wounds, though none were life-threatening.

The hunters called 911 for help and were able to walk back to their vehicle where they were met by an ambulance.

The victim was transported to Memorial Hospital in North Conway for treatment.

Conservation Officers from NH Fish and Game, along with Action Ambulance, Madison Police Department, and NH State Police responded to the scene.

The incident is currently under investigation by the NH Fish and Game Law Enforcement Division and Operation Game Thief.
