MILFORD — The Milford Police Department, in coordination with U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), captured Fernando Vieira Martins, an international fugitive wanted for homicide in Brazil, on Thursday, May 1.
Vieira Martins is wanted for allegedly stabbing a victim more than 30 times during an attack in Brazil, resulting in the victim’s death.
He fled to the United States in 2023 following the incident and was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by Brazilian authorities.
“Thanks to the collaborative work between our department and HSI, another dangerous individual has been apprehended and will now face justice,” said Robert Tusino, Milford Chief of Police.
Tusino noted this is the second known fugitive captured in Milford in recent weeks, stating, “This is the second known killer hiding amongst the people of Milford to be captured in the last 45 days.”
Martins is currently being held on immigration-related charges while extradition proceedings are pending.
