CHICOPEE — A routine property check led to multiple charges for a Palmer man after police discovered a loaded handgun and suspected cocaine early Wednesday morning.
An officer was checking businesses at 209 Exchange St. around 3:13 a.m. April 30 when he spotted a parked vehicle with its lights off and a man in the driver’s seat.
The vehicle’s lights turned on and it pulled away after the officer drove behind it.
Police initiated a traffic stop on Cabot Street and identified the driver as Samuel Sevilla, 36, of Palmer.
Officers determined Sevilla was driving with a suspended license and placed him under arrest.
During an inventory of the vehicle before towing, officers discovered a loaded handgun and ammunition.
While being transported to the police station, Sevilla was heard moving in the back seat and mentioned dropping his phone.
Upon arrival at the station, officers found Sevilla’s phone on the floor of the cruiser along with a small plastic bag containing a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine.
Sevilla faces multiple charges including operating with a suspended license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID, possession of a Class B drug, possessing a firearm with two prior violent/drug crimes, carrying a firearm without a license, and withholding evidence from a criminal proceeding.
