BRIDGEPORT — Police arrested a violent felon wanted in several states and rescued a woman being held captive Wednesday afternoon.
Nicholas Allwood, 27, was taken into custody after he chased a 35-year-old woman with a knife as she escaped from a house on Gregory Street at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Officers wrestled the knife away from Allwood without anyone being injured.
Police had been searching for Allwood and believed he was hiding inside the house, but were unaware the woman was being held hostage.
Allwood faces multiple charges including first-degree kidnapping, second-degree assault, carrying a dangerous weapon, first-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree threatening, assault on a public safety officer and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.
Authorities said Allwood is a suspect in a stabbing that occurred on Hanover Street about two hours before his arrest, as well as another stabbing on State Street several weeks ago.
The Bridgeport Police Homicide Unit is preparing an arrest warrant for the stabbings.
Allwood, who reportedly uses the alias “Hawthead,” has extraditable felony warrants from multiple states, including an attempted murder warrant from New York and a federal warrant from the United States Marshals Service for felon in possession of a weapon.
He is also wanted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement out of New York and was charged with four counts of being a fugitive from justice.
His bonds total $1,250,000.
The arrest was a joint operation involving the Bridgeport Police Homicide Unit, Task Force Officers, Tactical Narcotics Unit, Patrol Division, Connecticut State Police and the FBI Task Force.
