Oxford man dies after motorcycle, school bus collision

OXFORD — New York State Police have released the name of the motorcycle operator who died following a collision with a school bus as 61-year-old Michael Crandall from Oxford.

Crandall succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash that occurred April 29 at approximately 3:35 p.m.

State Police at Norwich responded to the intersection of County Road 35/State Route 220 and County Road 32 in the town of Oxford for a report of a collision between a school bus and a motorcycle.

The Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling westbound while the school bus from the Oxford Academy and Central School District was traveling northbound when they collided.

Crandall was transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center in critical condition before his death.

The school bus had eight children on board, ages 10 to 14.

A 12-year-old child was evaluated at Chenango Memorial Hospital, while no other children reported injuries.

The 58-year-old male school bus operator from Sherburne and a 54-year-old female aide from Greene were both evaluated at the scene.

Members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
