MOUNT VERNON — A 74-year-old Mount Vernon man died Tuesday evening at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx after being struck by a car on the Cross County Parkway, according to Westchester County Police Department.

Samuel Wallace, of North Fulton Avenue, was walking in the left lane of the westbound parkway when he was hit by a Buick SUV around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday near the Eastchester-Mount Vernon border.

Preliminary information indicates Wallace had crossed the right and center westbound lanes before the collision occurred.

No charges were filed against the driver.

A Citywide Mobile Response Team ambulance that was traveling on the parkway stopped at the scene, where an EMT provided immediate medical aid to Wallace before he was transported to Jacobi Medical Center.

The Eastchester Fire Department also assisted during the incident.

The westbound lanes of the parkway were closed to all traffic for several hours due to the investigation.
