CANDOR — A 69-year-old man with dementia who went missing from his home was found partially submerged in a creek after a search using a sheriff’s department drone.

Deputies from the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the Town of Candor on April 25 after family members reported the man missing from his home.

After an initial ground search failed to locate the man, the sheriff’s office deployed its drone unit to conduct an aerial search of the area.

A certified drone pilot operating a DJI drone successfully spotted the missing man approximately ¼ mile from his residence, lying partially in a creek.

The drone pilot directed ground deputies to the exact location where they found the missing person.

Candor EMS treated the man at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital for further evaluation.

The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Candor EMS during the incident.
