Elmira man arrested in child exploitation investigation

ELMIRA — A 19-year-old Elmira man was arrested following a child exploitation investigation conducted by multiple New York State Police units.

Hayden D. Denkenberger faces felony charges after investigators found child sexual abuse material on a device in his possession.

The investigation began on April 11, 2024, when State Police in Horseheads received a Cyber Tipline report from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children regarding the possession of child abuse material.

On May 3, 2024, authorities executed a search warrant at a residence on Pennsylvania Avenue in the town of Southport, seizing numerous devices for forensic examination.

The Troop E Computer Crimes Unit later determined that Child Sexual Abuse Material was present on one of the seized devices belonging to Denkenberger.

On April 25, Denkenberger was arrested and charged with Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child, a class D felony, and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, a class E felony.

Following his processing at the State Police barracks in Horseheads, Denkenberger was arraigned in the Town of Horseheads Court.

He was remanded to the Chemung County Jail on $10,000 bail or $20,000 bond.
