Burnt Hills man charged with felonies after domestic incident

BALLSTON — The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Burnt Hills man Wednesday night following a domestic incident on state Route 50.

Deputies responded to 830 state Route 50 in the town of Ballston at 9:27 p.m. after receiving a report of an active domestic incident.

Shaquelle I. Thornton, 34, of Burnt Hills, was arrested and charged with strangulation in the 2nd degree, a class D felony; criminal contempt in the 1st degree, a class E felony; and assault in the 3rd degree, a class A misdemeanor.

Thornton is accused of applying pressure to the throat or neck of another person with the intent to impede normal breathing or blood circulation, causing stupor or loss of consciousness.

Authorities say he also caused physical injury to the victim by striking and biting them, while violating an existing order of protection.

The victim was transported by EMS to Saratoga Hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Thornton was arraigned before Judge Timothy M. Brown in Milton Town Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail pending further proceedings.
