CORNISH — A 70-year-old Vermont bicyclist suffered serious injuries Wednesday when a delivery van struck him near the Cornish Windsor Covered Bridge.
The collision occurred around 5:05 p.m. at the intersection of Route 12A and the historic bridge, according to Cornish Police Chief E. Douglas Hackett.
Michael Hamel of Ascutney was riding an e-bike northbound on Route 12A when he signaled to make a left turn onto the covered bridge, police said.
A Nissan delivery van driven by John Webster, 55, of Hartland had stopped at the stop sign after exiting the bridge and was turning north onto Route 12A when it struck Hamel.
Windsor Ambulance transported Hamel to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Cornish Police, Fire and Rescue Squad responded to the scene along with Windsor Fire and Ambulance.
The crash remains under investigation with assistance from Windsor Police and New Hampshire State Police.
