5 arrested in Owego during week of police activity

OWEGO — Five people were arrested and 14 traffic tickets issued during the week of April 21 through April 27, according to the Owego Police Department.

Matthew J. Burdick, 32, of Owego was arrested for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree following an investigation of drug sales on W. Main Street.

Dean A. Degaramo, 26, of Owego was arrested for criminal contempt in the second degree after allegedly violating an order of protection.

A 15-year-old juvenile from Owego was arrested for arson in the second degree, a class B felony, following an investigation of a runaway juvenile on Southside Drive.

Kyle R. Peppard, 39, of Owego was arrested for aggravated family offense, criminal contempt in the second degree and endangering the welfare of a child after police responded to a report of an intoxicated person on E. Main Street.

Robert L. Whitmarsh, 53, of Nichols was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree following a traffic stop.

On April 25 at approximately 8 p.m., police responded to a burglary alarm at a business on Elm Street, resulting in four juveniles aged 13, 14, 15 and 16 being arrested for criminal trespass in the third degree.

The department reported a total of 160 calls for service and one motor vehicle accident during the week.
