ORANGETOWN — State Police arrested Alexis J. Santiago, 34, of Nyack, following a pursuit on Interstate 87 Monday evening.

Santiago faces multiple charges including Possession of a Forged Instrument 3rd degree, Obstruction of Governmental Administration 2nd degree, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer 3rd degree, Driving While Intoxicated and other vehicle and traffic violations.

The incident began around 6:10 p.m. on April 28 when State Police initiated a pursuit of a BMW traveling northbound on Interstate 87 near Exit 10 in Orangetown.

The chase ended when heavy traffic forced the vehicle to stop, allowing troopers to make contact with Santiago and a passenger.

Officers detected an odor of alcohol while interacting with Santiago, according to police.

Santiago was taken to State Police barracks in Tarrytown for processing before being transferred to Westchester County Police Department for outstanding warrants.

The Thruway was temporarily closed due to the incident but has since reopened.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
