MONTPELIER — A 47-year-old Montpelier man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly assaulting his domestic partner at a residence on Cummings Street, according to police.
Charles R. Smith was taken into custody following a report of assault received by the Montpelier Police Department at approximately 6:11 p.m. on April 29.
The victim reported being pushed to the ground, assaulted, and injured by Smith, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Police said Smith had court-ordered conditions of release from previous criminal charges that prohibited him from consuming alcohol, contacting or abusing the victim, being within proximity of the victim, and engaging in violent behavior.
Smith also had prior convictions for domestic assault, according to authorities.
Following his arrest, Smith was processed at the Montpelier Police Department, where a Vermont Superior Court Judge ordered him held without bail.
He was transported to the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility in St. Johnsbury to await arraignment.
Smith is scheduled to be arraigned in Washington County Superior Court, Criminal Division at 12:30 p.m. on April 30, where he will face charges of 2nd Degree Aggravated Domestic Assault and four counts of violation of conditions of release.
