GENEVA — Members of the Geneva Police Department arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a shooting that left one person hospitalized in guarded condition.
Jonathan Thomas Bey of Geneva was charged with first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon following the incident that occurred around midnight Tuesday on Exchange Street.
Police responded to Geneva General Hospital’s emergency department for a male who had been shot in the upper body.
Officers determined the shooting took place at a residence on Exchange Street, and the victim was transported by Finger Lakes Ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital for surgery.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, police executed a search warrant at a residence on Exchange Street with assistance from the Ontario County SWAT Team, Wayne County SWAT Team and New York State Police.
Bey was taken into custody and transported to the Geneva Police Department, where he was processed before being taken to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment.
Authorities are actively searching for a second suspect involved in the shooting.
The Geneva Detective Bureau believes this was an isolated incident with no immediate threat to the public.
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
