WEST GARDINER — A husband and wife were arrested Tuesday after a police chase ended when a state trooper used a PIT maneuver to stop their vehicle in West Gardiner.

The incident began at approximately 1:30 p.m. when a Maine State Police trooper from the Central Field Troop spotted a black Chevrolet Impala on Townhouse Road.

The vehicle was driven by Pearle Thomas, 34, of Augusta, with her husband, Zebbie Thomas, 33, of Charleston, as a passenger.

Zebbie Thomas had multiple active arrest warrants issued by other law enforcement agencies for felony robbery, aggravated assault, and violating conditions of release.

According to police, the couple had evaded law enforcement multiple times in past weeks during efforts to apprehend them.

When the trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the Impala failed to pull over and a pursuit began.

The trooper executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver on West Road in West Gardiner, successfully ending the chase.

Both Pearle and Zebbie Thomas were taken into custody without further incident.

The couple is being treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and will be transported to the Kennebec County Jail upon release.

Both face charges of eluding, driving to endanger and failure to stop.
