WILTON — Wilton police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fraudulent invoice scheme targeting local residents and businesses.
The Wilton Police Department reported that in July 2024, they received multiple complaints about fake invoices purportedly sent from the Town of Wilton Planning and Zoning Commission.
The fraudulent documents instructed victims to wire money to a Texas bank account, falsely claiming the payments were for application fees.
Detectives conducted what officials described as an “exhaustive investigation,” which included recovering bank records that led to the identification of a suspect.
An arrest was made Tuesday, though authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity or specific charges.
Police officials emphasized their commitment to pursuing those who attempt to defraud Wilton residents and businesses.
