FULTON — A Fulton man faces multiple charges after allegedly breaking into a home and assaulting a person protected by a court order.
Daniel R. Grinmanis, 35, was arrested on April 24 following two separate incidents at the same residence.
State Police first responded to the home at 10:56 a.m. for a 911 hang-up call.
The victim told officers that Grinmanis had come to the home and refused to leave, but had departed before police arrived.
Troopers searched the area but could not locate Grinmanis.
At approximately 3:59 p.m. the same day, police received another 911 hang-up from the residence.
Upon arrival, officers observed Grinmanis fleeing into nearby woods.
With assistance from the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office, authorities pursued Grinmanis on foot and took him into custody.
Investigators determined that Grinmanis had returned to the home after police left the area and forcibly entered through a basement window using a crowbar.
Once inside, Grinmanis allegedly prevented the victim from leaving and obstructed their breathing using his hands.
The victim managed to dial 911, prompting Grinmanis to flee when troopers arrived.
Police discovered that a court-issued stay-away order of protection was in place against Grinmanis at the time of both incidents.
On April 25, after undergoing medical and mental health evaluations, Grinmanis was processed at State Police Cobleskill and transported to the Schoharie County Correctional Facility awaiting arraignment.
Grinmanis faces charges including second-degree burglary, first-degree criminal contempt, criminal obstruction of breathing, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, possession of burglar tools, two counts of second-degree criminal contempt, and second-degree unlawful imprisonment.
