SPRINGFIELD — More than 600 pounds of unused or expired prescription pills were collected during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day at Central High School on Saturday, April 26.
Members of the Springfield Police Department, joined by representatives from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, participated in the collection effort.
Springfield Police Superintendent Lawrence E. Akers expressed gratitude to everyone who took part in the event.
The collection helps combat addiction while also preventing pharmaceutical contamination of water systems.
The event resulted in 608 pounds of prescription medications being safely removed from homes throughout the community.
