HINSDALE — The body of a 62-year-old Hinsdale man who had been missing since mid-April was recovered from the Ashuelot River on Monday, according to local police.
Scott Plante was found by New Hampshire Fish and Game officers at approximately 11:10 a.m., about one and a half miles from where he was last seen walking toward the river on April 17.
Plante was reported missing on April 23 by his roommate, who became concerned after not hearing from him since April 16.
The roommate located Plante’s vehicle at Millstream Riverfront Park on Main Street before contacting authorities.
Hinsdale Police Chief Melissa Evans said surveillance footage showed Plante parking his vehicle at the park and walking toward the river before 9 a.m. on April 17, without returning to view.
Multiple agencies assisted in the search, including New Hampshire Fish and Game, New Hampshire State Police, Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team, New England K-9 Search and Rescue, Rescue Inc. Technical Rescue Team, and Hinsdale Fire Department.
Search efforts covered approximately a one-mile radius from where Plante’s vehicle was found, including parts of the Ashuelot River searched by boat and divers.
The New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol and the New Hampshire State Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene after the discovery.
The cause of death has not yet been determined, and the case remains under investigation.
Authorities ask anyone with information that might assist investigators to contact New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol Sergeant Seth Alie at 603-227-2117.
