Man crashes stolen car, faces DUI and other charges in Clarendon

CLARENDON — A Rutland man faces multiple charges after crashing a stolen vehicle into a utility pole early Friday morning.

Vermont State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Creek Road at approximately 1:20 a.m.

Troopers found a 2014 Ford Fusion that had left the roadway and struck a utility pole.

The driver, identified as Brandan Mead-Layton, 28, of Rutland, was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Investigation revealed Mead-Layton had taken the vehicle without the owner’s consent and was operating with a criminally suspended license.

Troopers detected signs of impairment while speaking with Mead-Layton.

Emergency personnel transported Mead-Layton to Rutland Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

While at the hospital, Mead-Layton was processed for driving under the influence.

He was issued a citation to appear in Rutland Superior Court Criminal Division at a later date.

Mead-Layton faces charges of DUI, aggravated operation without owner’s consent, and criminal driving with license suspended.

The Ford Fusion was totaled in the crash, which occurred during cloudy weather with wet road conditions.
