DARTMOUTH — A 20-year-old man was arrested Saturday after crashing a stolen vehicle and attempting to flee on foot.
Dartmouth Police Department officers responded to 576 High Hill Road at approximately 2:15 p.m. on April 26 for a reported single-vehicle crash involving a gray Dodge Charger.
The operator had fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.
Freetown Police informed Dartmouth officers that they had previously attempted to stop the same vehicle, but the driver refused to pull over.
Investigation revealed the Charger had been reported stolen from New Bedford.
Dartmouth Police established a perimeter around the crash site and located the suspect, identified as Evan Gonzalez, who was taken into custody without incident by Detectives Matthew Desrosiers and Matthew Correia.
Gonzalez was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash.
Upon his release from the hospital, Gonzalez was processed at Dartmouth Police Headquarters and transferred to the Ash Street House of Correction to await bail.
Gonzalez faces multiple charges including receiving a stolen motor vehicle, leaving the scene of property damage, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violation, and speeding.
