TONAWANDA — The Town of Tonawanda Police Department has issued an alert regarding mail thefts occurring at the Hiler Branch USPS post office located at 244 Highland Parkway.
The department has received reports of thieves stealing mail from the outdoor mailbox, specifically targeting checks which are then “washed” and fraudulently cashed.
Police are actively investigating these incidents in cooperation with the United States Postal Inspection Service.
Residents are being advised to mail items inside the post office rather than using outdoor mailboxes, particularly during hours when the facility is closed.
The department has increased patrols in the area as part of their response to the thefts.
Anyone who believes they may have been victimized or has information about the thefts is encouraged to contact the Tonawanda Police Department at (716) 876-5300.
