SANBORNTON — Residents are being warned about scam calls from individuals impersonating local police officers, according to the Sanbornton Police Department.
The department reported Thursday that at least one resident received calls from spoofed phone numbers that appeared to be from the Tilton Police Department and the Sanbornton Police Department.
During these calls, the scammer claimed to be an officer attempting to make an arrest.
Police officials believe the scam likely would have progressed to demands for payment through cryptocurrency, cash cards, or other untraceable methods.
Authorities advise anyone receiving suspicious calls to hang up immediately and contact the police department directly using a number they look up independently.
The Sanbornton Police Department emphasized that residents should never use callback numbers provided during suspicious calls.
