AURELIUS — Three men were arrested April 9 following a reported theft at Dick’s Sporting Goods in the town of Aurelius, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded to the store around 6:45 p.m. after receiving a report of larceny, officials said.
Witnesses told deputies that the suspects had left the area in a vehicle.
A “be on the lookout” alert was issued to county, state, and city law enforcement agencies for the suspect vehicle.
Police stopped the vehicle a short time later in the city of Auburn with two occupants inside.
Investigators determined Allan M. Laury, 31, of Auburn, had stolen merchandise from the store and entered a vehicle with Robert M. Doyle III, 41, of Auburn, and Matthew R. Mckay, 42, of Fleming.
Laury was dropped off before police stopped the vehicle, but the stolen merchandise remained inside with Mckay and Doyle.
All three were subsequently arrested and taken to the Public Safety Building for processing.
Laury was charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor, and was sent to the Cayuga County Jail for arraignment due to multiple open cases.
Mckay was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor, and was also held at the jail for arraignment due to multiple open cases.
Doyle was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and was issued an appearance ticket for Auburn City Court on April 14 at 9:15 a.m.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Auburn Police Department.
