BOSTON — Boston police officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested a Newton man Monday night after recovering a loaded firearm during a traffic stop.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Circuit Street and Walnut Avenue at about 9:00 p.m. April 14 when they observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign.

Police activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens and initiated a stop near 16 Fenno Street.

As officers approached, they saw the driver making rapid movements and dipping toward the vehicle’s floorboard.

Officers tapped on the driver’s side window to get the operator’s attention, but instead of rolling down the window, the driver opened the door.

Police ordered the operator out of the vehicle and conducted a pat frisk.

Officers recovered an FN 5-7 firearm from underneath the driver’s seat, loaded with seventeen rounds in a magazine capable of holding twenty rounds.

Karon Washington, 31, of Newton, was placed under arrest at the scene.

He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of a large capacity firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition (subsequent offense), and unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device.
