BOSTON — Officers with the Boston Police Department arrested Robert Rutledge, 42, of Boston, on Tuesday morning in connection with a recent shooting in Dorchester.

Police said Rutledge was taken into custody at approximately 10:18 a.m. in the area of 10 Callendar Street by officers from District B-3 (Mattapan).

At the time of his arrest, Rutledge was wanted on a warrant from Dorchester District Court for carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

During a search related to his arrest, officers recovered one plastic bag containing medication pills and another bag containing crack cocaine, police said.

Rutledge was additionally charged with possession of a Class B substance and two counts of possession of a Class E substance.

Officers also learned Rutledge had an active warrant out of Brockton District Court for malicious destruction of property under $1,200.

The charges stem from a shooting that occurred at about 11:16 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, when officers responded to 247 Woodrow Avenue for a report of a person shot.

According to police, a 911 call from a local hospital indicated a private ambulance had dropped off the victim, who had non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers determined the incident occurred on Woodrow Avenue and located ballistic evidence in an apartment at the scene.
