PITTSFIELD — The Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office alerted residents Tuesday to an ongoing phone scam in which callers impersonate a local sergeant and demand money from community members.

According to the sheriff’s office, multiple residents reported receiving calls from an individual claiming to be Sergeant Kyle Richardson of the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office.

The caller told recipients that they had missed a scheduled court date and that there was a warrant for their arrest.

Victims were then instructed to send money through various online services to resolve the alleged issue or were told to report to court the following business day.

The sheriff’s office said these calls are fraudulent and advised anyone who receives such a call to hang up and contact their local police department.
