BRIDPORT — Vermont State Police arrested 18-year-old Stephen Nuciolo Jr. on Monday on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the January 2024 death of his father, Stephen Nuciolo Sr.
The arrest follows an investigation that began when the elder Nuciolo, 44, was found dead in his Swinton Road home on January 24, 2024.
Nuciolo Jr. was taken into custody without incident Monday afternoon and processed at the New Haven Barracks.
He was ordered held without bail Monday night and is scheduled for arraignment at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Middlebury.
The Vermont Attorney General’s Office is handling the prosecution of the case.
According to previous updates from investigators, the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office determined in February 2024 that Nuciolo Sr. died from a gunshot wound to the head.
The manner of death had been listed as pending further investigation, including toxicology testing.
State police initially responded to the residence after receiving a report that Nuciolo Sr. had died in the residence overnight on January 24, 2024.
Authorities indicated in January that the death appeared suspicious but that there was no known threat to the community.
The affidavit of probable cause will be filed with the court and made public following Tuesday’s arraignment.
