WESTPORT — A local man was arrested following an alleged assault in the woods behind his home, according to Westport Police.

David DeVeau of Sisson Brook Lane was taken into custody on April 9 at his residence without incident by members of the Westport Police Department.

The arrest stemmed from a report made by a female who came to the Westport Police Station on April 8 to report an assault that allegedly occurred the previous day.

The woman told police she had visited DeVeau, who had recently gone through a breakup, to check on him.

According to her statement, DeVeau suggested they take a walk in the woods behind his home, where he allegedly forced himself on her and assaulted her.

Following an investigation by the Detective Unit, police obtained an arrest warrant for DeVeau.

DeVeau was charged with three counts of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 and one count of assault with intent to rape.

After his arrest, DeVeau was transported to court and held overnight.

He was released the following day with a GPS monitoring bracelet.
