MENTZ — A routine traffic stop in Cayuga County led to weapons and drug charges after state troopers discovered a loaded handgun and cannabis in a vehicle with suspended registration.

On April 8 at approximately 8:54 p.m., troopers from SP Auburn pulled over a 2000 Buick on State Route 31 in the town of Mentz due to a suspended registration for lack of insurance.

The driver, Cayla L. Blaisdell, 21, of Wolcott, was unable to provide valid proof of insurance during the stop.

During their investigation, troopers found a firearm in possession of the passenger, Robert T. Wickman, 36, also of Wolcott.

A further search of the vehicle revealed a Smith & Wesson .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun loaded with a magazine containing seven live rounds.

Troopers also discovered approximately 122 grams of concentrated cannabis in the vehicle.

Wickman was arrested and transported to SP Auburn for processing, where he was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree, a class C felony, and Unlawful Possession of Cannabis, a violation.

Following processing, Wickman was taken to Cayuga County CAP for arraignment.
