STAMFORD — Two local men face potential life sentences after being indicted on charges of trafficking more than 400 grams of fentanyl through the U.S. mail system, federal authorities announced Tuesday.
Tasean Lemar Brown, 35, and Stanley Charles, 44, both of Stamford, were arrested Monday following an April 3 grand jury indictment in Bridgeport.
The men appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Maria E. Garcia in New Haven, where they pleaded not guilty and were ordered detained.
According to court documents, investigators discovered Brown and Charles were using the postal service to transport fentanyl into Connecticut for distribution throughout the southwestern part of the state.
Authorities intercepted two packages that Brown allegedly mailed to Charles from California and Arizona.
The first package contained approximately one kilogram of fentanyl powder, while the second held about three kilograms of counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl.
If convicted, both men face a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, with the possibility of life imprisonment.
The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Connecticut State Police, and police departments from Stamford, Greenwich, Bridgeport, Danbury, Stratford, and Norwalk.
