CHAMPLAIN — A Plattsburgh woman faces multiple charges after leading police on a 25-mile chase that ended with a K9 unit deployment Tuesday night.

Stephanie N. Wells, 36, was arrested and charged with obstruction of government administration, resisting arrest, unlawful fleeing a police officer, reckless driving, and operating a motor vehicle impaired by drugs.

State Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a red 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt on Devils Den Road in Champlain around 8:45 p.m. when the driver failed to comply.

The ensuing pursuit involved both State Police and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department.

During the chase, Wells’ vehicle struck a Clinton County Sheriff’s vehicle, disabling it on Lawrence Paquette Industrial Drive.

Troopers reported that Wells refused multiple commands to exit her vehicle and attempted to flee by revving her engine and spinning her tires.

After continued non-compliance, a Trooper broke the vehicle’s window and warned Wells that K9 Perkins would be deployed if she did not exit.

When Wells still refused to comply, K9 Perkins was deployed, and she was subsequently taken into custody.

Wells was transported to Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital for medical treatment before being released to police custody.

Following processing at SP Champlain, Wells was released on appearance tickets and turned over to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department for additional charges related to the incident.
