BOSTON — A 17-year-old male from Dorchester was arrested Thursday night after police recovered a loaded firearm following a traffic stop of a stolen vehicle.

Officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) initially observed a vehicle with an obstructed license plate near Blue Hill Avenue and Columbia Road around 9 p.m. on April 3.

A registration check revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen, prompting officers to request backup for a safe stop.

The vehicle suddenly accelerated at high speed after turning onto Sunderland Street and later Warren Street.

Officers did not pursue due to public safety concerns but continued monitoring the vehicle until it stopped abruptly near 10 Holborn Street.

Two individuals exited the vehicle, with the passenger keeping both hands inside his sweatshirt pocket as he attempted to flee on foot.

Officers quickly apprehended the teen and observed him trying to discard a firearm beneath a nearby parked vehicle.

After a brief struggle, the suspect was taken into custody and police recovered a .32 Smith & Wesson revolver, chambered in .38 caliber, loaded with five rounds and with an obliterated serial number.

The juvenile faces multiple charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, and unlawful possession of a firearm, second offense.

He will face arraignment in Boston Municipal Court.
