Police seek woman in West Springfield shoplifting, assault

WEST SPRINGFIELD — Police are searching for a woman who allegedly assaulted and bit a store employee during a shoplifting incident on Memorial Avenue.

The incident occurred March 19 at approximately 2 p.m. when the woman attempted to leave a store with unpaid merchandise, according to the West Springfield Police Department.

When a store employee tried to prevent the theft, the suspect physically assaulted the employee and bit them, breaking the skin.

The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle that was photographed by security cameras.

Responding officers provided first aid to the injured employee at the scene.

Police have released surveillance images of the female suspect and are asking for the public’s help in identifying her.
