NORWALK — Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a December robbery at the SONO Collection mall where a security officer was pepper sprayed.
Jesus Rodriguez, 32, of Bronx, N.Y., was extradited to Connecticut on April 3 after being arrested by the Yonkers Police Department for crimes in their jurisdiction.
Rodriguez faces charges of first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit second-degree robbery, organized retail theft, conspiracy to commit organized retail theft and third-degree larceny.
The incident occurred on December 28, 2024, at 5:02 p.m. when patrol officers were dispatched to the SONO Collection following reports of a robbery.
According to police, two men and one woman stole ten handbags valued at approximately $2,500 from Bloomingdales and fled the store.
During the robbery, a security officer was sprayed in the face with an irritant, likely pepper spray or mace.
Detectives identified Rodriguez and Evelyn Marreno as suspects through video surveillance and other investigative techniques.
Police said both suspects were wanted by multiple other law enforcement agencies in several states for similar robberies and larcenies.
Marreno was arrested several weeks ago by New Jersey law enforcement and is currently in custody in Hudson County, awaiting extradition for charges in both Norwalk and New York.
Rodriguez is being held on a $75,000 bond.
