HAMPTON — A Manchester man was arrested on charges of False Personation of a Law Enforcement Officer after allegedly attempting to perform an arrest on an off-duty law enforcement officer in Hampton.
On April 3 at approximately 7:33 p.m., Hampton Police received a report from an individual who said a man had approached him, identified himself as a police officer, and attempted to arrest him.
Officers located the suspect vehicle near 369 Lafayette Road and conducted a motor vehicle stop.
The driver was identified as Luke J. Foster, 24, of Manchester.
According to police, Foster was not wearing any markings or uniform that would identify him as an officer.
Investigators determined that when Foster allegedly made threatening gestures toward the victim, the victim informed Foster that he himself was a law enforcement officer, at which point Foster reportedly fled the area.
After an investigation, officers arrested Foster on the charge of False Personation, a Class B Felony.
Foster was processed at the Hampton Police Department and held on preventative detention.
He was arraigned on Friday, April 4, in the 10th Circuit-Hampton District Court, where he was ordered to remain held on preventive detention at the Rockingham County Jail.
A Probable Cause hearing has been scheduled for April 11 at 11:30 a.m. in the 10th Circuit-Hampton District Court.
No injuries were reported in the incident, which remains under investigation.
Police say there is no additional threat to the public.
