East Meredith man charged with rape, child pornography

DELHI — Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrest of 19-year-old Alex S. Young of East Meredith on a Sealed Indictment Warrant issued by Delaware County Court after a Grand Jury action.

On Tuesday, March 18, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division received a complaint that a 19-year-old male possessed child pornography on his cellular device.

While investigating this initial complaint, investigators discovered that the suspect had committed numerous other crimes in violation of the New York State Penal Law.

In conjunction with the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office and Delaware Opportunities Safe Against Violence’s Child Advocacy Center, numerous forensic interviews of the victims were conducted by the Criminal Investigations Division.

On Thursday, March 27, the results of this investigation were presented to the Delaware County Grand Jury.

At the conclusion of their deliberation, the Grand Jury handed down a Sealed Indictment Arrest Warrant charging Young with two counts of Rape in the First Degree, a Class B Felony; four counts of Rape in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony; one count of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, a Class E Felony; one count of Aggravated Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony; and one count of Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Later that same day, Young was arrested on the Sealed Indictment Warrant and taken into custody without incident before being transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility.

On Friday, March 28, Young was arraigned in Delaware County Court where the Indictment was unsealed.

At the conclusion of the arraignment, Judge Gary Rosa remanded Young to the custody of Delaware County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 secured bond, pending further action by the Court.
