BATH — The Village of Bath Police Department arrested two local residents Thursday on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges related to child endangerment and animal cruelty.
Arthur Gilbert, 33, and Catherine Wheeler, 28, both of Bath, were arrested on a Superior Court indictment warrant.
The charges include first-degree reckless endangerment, a class D felony, and first-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, a class E felony.
The pair also face two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, an A misdemeanor, and 16 counts of animal cruelty, all misdemeanors.
According to police, the arrests stem from an investigation that began in February involving two young children and multiple cats.
The Bath Police Department was assisted by Steuben County Child Protective Services, Village of Bath Codes Enforcement, the Finger Lakes SPCA, and the Steuben County District Attorney’s Office.
Both subjects were transported to the Steuben County Jail where they will be arraigned in Steuben County Court at a later date.
