ESSEX — Essex Police detained three juveniles Sunday after responding to reports of vandalism at the Amtrak Station on Railroad Avenue.
Officers arrived at approximately 5:54 p.m. following reports that juveniles were spray painting the building.
After obtaining descriptions of the suspects, police located the group on a nearby street.
The juveniles attempted to flee but were quickly detained by officers.
Investigation revealed the juveniles had spray painted various letters and images, some described as obscene, on both the glass partition of the bus stop and the station building.
Officers recovered evidence near the scene linking the juveniles to the vandalism.
One juvenile was found in possession of a BB gun that lacked orange safety markings, giving it the appearance of a real firearm.
Some of the juveniles have been issued court diversion paperwork.
The incident remains under investigation.
