SPRINGFIELD — Springfield police officers seized a loaded firearm and a trafficking weight of crack cocaine after a vehicle crashed into a stop sign and fire hydrant Wednesday at approximately 8:00 p.m.

Officers initially observed a vehicle run a stop sign on State Street around 7:45 p.m. and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

The driver, later identified as Tyrone Jones, 37, of Springfield, sped away from officers.

Members of the Springfield Police C3 Unit later found the vehicle crashed and unoccupied near the intersection of Wilbraham Road and Albemarle Street.

Officers located Jones on the 200 block of Wilbraham Road and discovered a firearm on the ground next to the crashed vehicle.

Police recovered approximately 24 grams of crack cocaine from Jones’ pants and placed him under arrest.

American International College Police informed Springfield officers that a second suspect was in the area of Reed Street.

Officers located the second suspect, Christopher Beadle, 35, of Springfield, on the 900 block of State Street and arrested him on an outstanding warrant.

Jones, who has two prior convictions on firearms charges, faces multiple charges including cocaine trafficking, carrying a firearm without a license (second offense), and leaving the scene of property damage.

Beadle faces charges related to his arrest warrant, including operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and several other motor vehicle violations.
