Schenectady teen arrested after online school shooting threat

SCHENECTADY — A 13-year-old girl was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly posting a school shooting threat on TikTok, according to the Schenectady Police Department.

Detectives were notified by the FBI about the threat posted in a TikTok comments section on March 12.

The online threat did not target specific individuals or schools within the district.

Authorities traced the IP address to a residence in Schenectady, where officers made contact with the teenage suspect.

No weapons were found at the location.

The girl was taken to the department’s Youth Aid Bureau and charged with making a terroristic threat, a Class D felony.

Police officials have been in communication with the City of Schenectady School District since learning of the incident.

No additional threats have been identified, according to police.

The suspect’s identity is being withheld due to her age.
