Police arrest Lewiston man on child pornography charges

LEWISTON — Police arrested a local man Wednesday on charges of disseminating and possessing child sexual abuse materials following a search of his Howe Street apartment.

Keith Carpenter, 35, was taken into custody after Lewiston Police Department and Maine Probation and Parole executed a search warrant at 65 Howe Street, apartment 3, at 10 a.m. March 12.

The investigation began after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported child sexual abuse materials being uploaded to social media from the address.

Carpenter was charged with dissemination of sexually explicit material involving a child under 12, a Class B crime, and possession of sexually explicit material involving a child under 12, a Class C crime.

He is being held without bail on a probation hold, with bail set at $10,000 for the new charges.
