PENN YAN — A 37-year-old Penn Yan man was arrested after a foot pursuit in the area of South Ave. following his failure to appear for sentencing on multiple charges of Possession of Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child.
Joshua J. Woodruff allegedly staged a possible suicide scene on the night of March 11 to elude capture and possibly flee the state.
Penn Yan Police received a tip on March 12 that Woodruff was hiding in a wooded area near South Ave.
When officers attempted to take Woodruff into custody, he fled on foot armed with a fixed blade knife.
Officers requested additional assistance from the State Police and Yates County Sheriff’s Office, who provided a drone and a K9 tracking dog.
Woodruff was later found hiding in a large outdoor storage building and taken into custody.
Penn Yan Police charged Woodruff with Obstruction of Governmental Administration before turning him over to New York State Police on the bench warrant for failing to appear at sentencing.
