SHANDAKEN — A 21-year-old Kingston man was arrested following a domestic dispute in which he allegedly assaulted his wife who had an active order of protection against him.
Officers from the Town of Shandaken Police Department initially responded to the area of 8373 Route 28 in Big Indian after reports of a man forcing a woman into a small blue sedan.
Police were unable to locate the vehicle at first but later found it in the Phoenicia hamlet.
When officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the suspect fled on foot on Bridge Street.
Police quickly located the man on High Street as he was attempting to leave the area.
Investigation revealed that the man had assaulted his wife, violating an active order of protection.
The suspect faces multiple charges including the felonies of Aggravated Criminal Contempt and Strangulation in the Second Degree, along with misdemeanor charges of Assault in the Third Degree, Obstruction of Government Administration in the Second Degree, and Resisting Arrest.
He was arraigned in the Ulster County Centralized Arraignment Part Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail with bail.
