Angola man pleads guilty in crash that killed 8-year-old

HAMBURG — Markus R. Genovese, 53, of Angola, pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges in the death of an 8-year-old passenger following a collision in Hamburg.

Genovese entered his plea Thursday morning before Erie County Court Judge James Bargnesi, according to Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane.

The defendant pleaded guilty to one count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, one count of Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree, and one count of Leaving the Scene of an Incident Resulting in Death.

Prosecutors said these were the highest sustainable charges in the case.

Genovese faces a maximum of 15 years in prison when he is sentenced on Monday, May 12, at 9:30 a.m.

He remains held without bail pending sentencing.
