WELLS — The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 27-year-old Wells man on charges of fourth-degree arson after two recreational vehicles were destroyed by fire.
Erik M. Mattice, of 153 Brussell Street, was taken into custody on March 11 following an investigation into a March 7 incident.
Authorities responded to a 911 call at approximately 8:30 p.m. reporting multiple camping trailer RVs on fire next to a residence on Brussell Street.
Investigators determined that Mattice recklessly discharged a flare gun in the vicinity of the recreational vehicles, causing both to become fully engulfed in flames before firefighters arrived at the scene.
The Wells Volunteer Fire Company, Wells Volunteer Ambulance, Speculator Volunteer Fire Department and the Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management assisted at the scene.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Mattice is scheduled to appear in Wells Town Court later this month.
