Man charged with murder after fatal stabbing of girlfriend in Waterbury, CT

WATERBURY — A 39-year-old man has been charged with murder following a domestic dispute that turned deadly at a Lounsbury Street apartment, according to police.

Julio Araud-Figueroa is being held on $3,000,000 bond after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend, Yomayra Vargas-Martinez, 39, multiple times during an altercation at their shared residence.

The incident occurred at 70 Lounsbury Street, Apartment 2, where the couple lived together.

Police said the couple’s 19-year-old daughter was present during the attack and attempted to intervene.

After being stabbed, Vargas-Martinez fled the residence and sought help at a Mini Mart located at 69 Lounsbury Street across the street.

The daughter was not injured during the incident, authorities confirmed.

Responding officers located Araud-Figueroa inside the apartment and took him into custody without incident.

Araud-Figueroa is scheduled to be arraigned in court today.
