Albion man arrested for wallet theft in Geneseo

GENESEO — A 69-year-old Albion man with twelve prior felony convictions was arrested on March 7 for allegedly stealing a wallet containing $400 from a shopper at a local grocery store.

Dannie Sims was charged with felony Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree and Petit Larceny following an investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched to the Town of Geneseo on March 1 after receiving a report of a stolen wallet.

The victim reported that their wallet had been stolen the previous day while shopping at a grocery store in Geneseo.

According to authorities, Sims allegedly stole the wallet inside the store, which was later found by an employee in the parking lot.

The victim confirmed that $400 in cash was missing from the recovered wallet.

Following his arrest, Sims was processed at the Livingston County Jail and arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part before Town of West Sparta Justice Mahany.

The District Attorney’s Office recommended Sims be held without bail due to his twelve prior felony convictions, and the judge remanded him to the custody of the Sheriff without bail pending further court proceedings.

The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented Sims at the arraignment, while the District Attorney’s Office represented the People.

The investigation was conducted by members of the Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division and Criminal Investigations Division.
